About Us

 

Our organization is chaired by educators, and is the offspring of our love for the beautiful island of Maui, and our experiences as educators and volunteers. May a sincere desire to help each other in the education of children, and the preservation of natural and cultural resources in Maui County always be the guiding principle for collaboration with our community, government, volunteers and partner organizations in all present and future endeavors.

Eduardo R. Zayas-Quinones, President and Director of Technology

Ed ZayasMr. Zayas has over 30 years experience in the fields of information assurance, technology management, and education. After a 20 year military career, he worked as a technology leader for global commercial companies, the U.S. intelligence community and law enforcement. He received a baccalaureate degree in Information Systems Management and a Masters in Business Administration, Technology Management. He serves as Commander for Civil Air Patrol’s Kihei Composite Squadron, and has volunteered many hours at Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve for the National Marine Sanctuary. He holds a Culture, Oceans, Reefs and Animal Life (CORAL) certification. He is a HI state licensed educator and is currently employed by Hawaii Job Corps as a Business & Technology Teacher.

 

Evelyn Zayas, Vice President and Director of Education Programs

Evelyn ZayasMs. Zayas has over 20 years experience in Information Technology. She received a Master of Science in Software Engineering and a PhD (ABD) in Computing Technology in Education. She is an engineering and technology teacher at Kihei Charter High School and a trainer for UH Maui College’s EdVenture (formally VITEC) program.

 

Judy Edwards, Director of Conservation Education

Ms. Edwards is a conservationist, educator and writer who has lived in Hawaii Judy Edwardsfor 15 years.  She likes all the things girls aren't supposed to like, including bats, snakes and spiders.
   She has worked in two National Parks, both in the field and as an interpreter. She was a Ranger for USFWS on Midway and is currently a Ranger for the State of Hawaii Dept. of Land and Natural Resources. She has taught outdoor environmental education to children at the Hawaii Nature Center, and has worked as a consultant to determine human impacts on Hawaii's coastlines. Judy writes a natural history blog for the maui.net portal and has published essays and shorts stories in several magazines and an anthology.   Raised in Texas, she has a Bachelor's in English with a minor in Zoology from the University of Texas at Austin, 1988.
