The semi-annual, statewide Hawaiian Monk Seal counts are held to track the whereabouts of these endangered animals, with volunteers throughout the islands scanning the beaches and rocky shore lines.

April 16, 2011 - Ed and I flew about the island of Lanai, and were able to spot 3 monk seals. Click on the pink markers to see a tiny photo :-)

October 16, 2010 - Ed flew 2 volunteers with cameras between Maui and Lanai - their route in blue on the map, and they were thrilled to spot a monk seal on the north side of Lanai. Click on the monk seal icon on the map to see a great photo!
